Kenyan engineers completed and launched its first SpaceX

On April 11, 2023, the Kenya Space Agency (KSA) launched Taifa-1, the first operational 3U Earth observation satellite. The Space Exploration Technologies Corporation (SpaceX)-assisted the launch which took place at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California using a Falcon 9 rocket. A team of Kenyan engineers completed the satellite’s construction and design. The components were created and tested in conjunction with the Bulgarian aerospace manufacturer Endurosat AD.

The advantage of this satellite-based space exploration is that it will provide information for decision-making in a variety of areas, including agricultural and food security, resource management, and environmental monitoring.
