Fiji lets citizens and residents handle birth registration and birth certificate requests online through the government’s Digital Fiji platform, which cuts out the need to visit a registry office in person for most requests. This online registration service is accessed through the Digital Fiji App or by logging into mobile.digital.gov.fj, and it’s available exclusively to local citizens. Whether you’re registering a newborn’s birth for the first time or requesting a reprint of your own certificate, the process runs through the same eBDM e-Services portal, with different requirements and fees depending on which service you need.
Registering a New Birth Online
The Apply for a Birth Certificate service lets Fijian parents register their child’s birth digitally, and once the registration is approved, the certificate is issued automatically. This option is available when one parent already has an e-Profile account and the baby was born at a Fiji medical institution, using the original birth notification issued by that institution as supporting documentation. Registration itself is a legal requirement, and it’s the responsibility of both parents — every baby born in Fiji must normally be registered within two months of birth, and registration is free within the first twelve months from the child’s date of birth. If the parents aren’t able to register the child themselves, the law allows any person present at the birth, or the occupier of the house where the birth occurred, to register it on their behalf, and for births at a public or charitable institution, the person in charge of that institution is responsible for gathering the required details from the mother.
Requesting a Reprint of an Existing Birth Certificate
If you already have a registered birth and just need a copy of your certificate, the reprint service is the faster option. To apply, the applicant needs an e-Profile account and their Birth Registration Number, after which they can select the Re-Print Birth Certificate option on the portal and log in. You’ll also need a valid form of identity proof alongside your birth registration number to complete the request. Currently, self-collection is the only fulfillment method available online — mailed delivery is still under development.
Fees and Processing Times
Costs and turnaround differ depending on whether you’re registering a birth for the first time or reprinting an existing certificate.
- New birth registration: free for the first copy of the birth certificate, with a processing time of around three days.
- Reprint via the eBDM portal: currently $11.25 per copy, with same-service processing typically completed within one day.
- Reprint through the Registrar’s office directly: around $10.90 per copy when processed in person at the Fiji BDM Registrar Office.
- Reprint through Post Fiji outlets: around $16.35 per copy, useful if you’d rather collect your certificate at a post office instead of the registry.
Applying From Overseas
If you’re a Fijian citizen living abroad, the local eBDM portal’s restriction to local citizens means you’ll typically need to go through a Fiji diplomatic mission instead. The Fiji Consulate General & Trade Commission for Australia and New Zealand, for example, processes birth certificate requests through its own application form, with a fee of $108 AUD plus a Stripe online processing charge of 2.9% plus 30 cents. Check with your nearest Fiji embassy, high commission, or consulate for the exact form and fee that applies to your location, since these can vary by country.

Having the right documents ready before you begin avoids delays partway through the application.
- A valid e-Profile account on the Digital Fiji platform, created via mobile.digital.gov.fj if you don’t already have one.
- Your Birth Registration Number, required for reprint requests.
- Valid identity proof, such as a passport, driving licence, or FRCS/FNPF card.
