At the Mindo Butterfly Farm, visitors get up close with more than 1,000 species of butterflies at every stage of their life cycle. Even travelers who aren’t especially drawn to butterflies tend to be charmed by the small koi pond, fluttering hummingbirds, and picturesque surroundings.
Birdwatching Around Mindo

Ecuador’s cacao is famous worldwide, and Mindo is a genuine hub for experiencing it firsthand. Thanks to the high quality of cocoa grown here, Ecuadorian chocolate has become increasingly popular, and Mindo has become a hub for chocolate tours. El Quetzal Restaurant is a local institution known for its rich, fudgy brownies, and its full “bean-to-bar” chocolate tour walks visitors through the entire process, from how the cacao is grown to how it becomes the finished product.
Canopy Ziplining
For an adrenaline-focused activity, ziplining through the forest canopy is one of Mindo’s signature experiences. Mindo is considered the best place in Ecuador for canopy ziplining. The zipline course through the cloud forest offers a combination of mountain views and jungle immersion without requiring too strenuous a hike to get started.
